The social impact of Kiútprogram (SIK)

Description

Kiútprogram is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting social mobility and facilitating Roma inclusion by helping them establish sustainable, formal businesses in agricultural production (such as cucumber farming) and other small enterprises (e.g., carpentry, hairdressing).

Studying Kiutprogram enriches SERIGO’s empirical and theoretical framework by offering empirical evidence of the role an independent social enterprise can play in empowering multiply disadvantaged Roma communities.

Aim

Through the SIK case study, the working hypothesis is that the comprehensive approach of the Kiútprogram, which provides financial and mentoring services to undereducated, unemployed, and socially excluded Roma communities, has a strong empowerment effect by fostering capability building in addition to financial tools.
