Social Enterprise Košice (SEK)
Description
SEK (Social Enterprise Košice) is a registered social enterprise established in 2020 by the Košice self-governing region in Eastern Slovakia. Operating as a limited liability company, it provides employment opportunities for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and marginalised groups, including people from Roma communities. The enterprise operates across three main divisions—Construction, House and Garden, and Cleaning—combining business activities with a strong social mission aimed at promoting integration, equality, and rural development.
Aim
The case study aims to analyse how SEK and comparable locally based actors implement social innovation to enhance the social inclusion of vulnerable and marginalised groups. It examines the drivers and barriers shaping the establishment and operation of such social innovations, their intersectional impacts on different target groups, and the factors enabling locally rooted initiatives to scale up or transfer good practices beyond their original geographical scope.
