Shanco Social Enterprise initiated by the Bagázs Association (BAG)

Description

Shanco is a social enterprise established in 2019 by the Bagázs Association to support socially marginalised Roma women living in the segregated Roma settlement of Dány, a predominantly rural village in Hungary. The initiative provides home-based employment opportunities through the production of bags, enabling women to earn an independent income and improve their social participation. Sancho aims to create long-term, self-sustaining livelihoods in a context where women are often excluded from the labour market or limited to public works programmes.

Aim

The case study aims to examine how Shanco contributes to labour market integration and social participation among Roma women in a rural, marginalised community. It focuses on the role of home-based, family-friendly employment and social enterprise models in empowering women and addressing structural labour market exclusion in segregated rural settlements.
