Toimi säätiö – Empowering vulnerable individuals through social and labour market rehabilitation in Iisalmi and Kiuruvesi (TOI)

Toimi Säätiö is a private, non-profit foundation that provides social and labour market rehabilitation to prevent social exclusion among vulnerable groups, including young people, immigrants, and individuals with disabilities or partial impairments. Founded in 2013, the foundation operates in the City of Iisalmi and the municipality of Kiuruvesi in Northern Savonia, Finland. Through work-based learning environments and close cooperation with public-sector actors, Toimi Säätiö supports labour market integration in both predominantly rural and more urban contexts.

Aim

The case study aims to analyse the resources mobilised by Toimi Säätiö in rural and semi-urban settings to support vulnerable individuals’ (re)entry into the labour market. It examines the added value the foundation provides to public-sector activities and the ways in which its operations are integrated with, or disconnected from, public services. In addition, the study compares Toimi Säätiö’s approaches and modes of operation in the more rural context of Kiuruvesi and the more urban setting of Iisalmi.
